If we don't have a stout on tap you'll be enjoying this beer. A strong chocolaty porter, it will seduce you with its smoked, roasted flavors.

Pint on tap at the brewpub in Hallowell, Maine. Served in a shaker.
Appearance: Pours a dark, dark brown with a little ring of tan film.
Aroma: Smells roasty, a little like coffee, with notes of dark chocolate and maybe a little brown bread.
Taste: That roastiness from nose is there. Coffee, dark malts, some baking chocolate. Nice dry, toasty finish.
Mouthfeel: Just right for style.
Overall: Terrific straight-up porter. A good porter is one of life's pleasures and this one hits all the notes.

From notes. On tap at the brewpub. Dark, with reddish highlights when held to light. Clear. Thin mocha head recedes quickly, no lacing. SMELL, smoky roasty dominate, but allow some chocolaty sweetness to add complexity. TASTES roasty, smoky, chocolate, malty sweetness, modestly bitter finish from hops and roasted grain lingers a bit. Very smooth, balanced and complex. Nice, impressive. FEELS a bit too fizzy, but a pleasant texture follows. Thin side of medium body. OVERALL girlfriend and I had 4 of 'em, and she is not much a beer drinker. It worked for her, and I was impressed. Smooth, roasty, tasty, balanced, complex, with a bit of a hoppy bite. What more could you ask for in a porter?

On-tap at the brewpub. Black body with ruby-red highlights and about an inch of tan head. Smells sweet and roasty with a hint of hops. Tastes like roasted caramel and burnt malt. Medium-to light bodied. A little lighter in flavor than expected, but otherwise flawless IMO. Pretty good porter.
