3 oz. taster at the brewery.
Appearance: Dark cherry/mahogany color with a short cream head.
Aroma: Grassy, herbal.
Taste: Sharp, malty, grassy, a bit bitter.
Mouthfeel: Drinkable; just about seasionable.
Overall: Decent little beer named for a decent little fish.

Comes to the table a fairly clear amber/copper color with a foamy off white head. Aromas of caramel and toffee with hints of earthy hops. The flavor is malty sweet with lots of sweet bread, toffee, and caramel, earthy hops barely balance the maltiness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. I enjoyed this beer it had enough to keep me interested.

The flavor is malty sweet with lots of sweet bread, toffee, and caramel, earthy hops barely balance the maltiness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. I enjoyed this beer it had enough to keep me interested.

Poured on-tap and served in a Liberal pint, the beer is a slightly hazed, deep, vibrant, copper-brown coloring with a thin, bubbly, off-white head that only coats the surface. Aromas of toffee malt, with a slight roasting. Tangy and light on the nose. The flavors are nut and toffee malt sweet with a solid roasting. Solid little malt bomb here, but with a crisp hops presence at the very end. It cleans up nicely. The aftertaste is tangy and roasted, with a slightly cloying, crisp finish. Easy to drink, and full flavored.

Off the tap this beer was a copper color with a sandalwood head of foamy bubbles that retained itself well but left sub-standard lacing. The aroma was very, very soft, wafts of malt was all I could pull out of it. The flavors were better, starting with a malty note and some strong wood before it became like an E.S.B. with very bitter hops. Astringent, acidic and a little root-like because it lacked malt balance at the end. The mouthfeel was semi-smooth, the body medium and the carbonation medium/high.

Amber color with thin white head. Smells slightly hoppy, though the aroma is not as strong as it could be. Tastes mostly fruity and sweet, with hints of hops. Lighter bodied. Probably my favorite beer from the brewery. Tasty and refreshing. Definitely something I will be getting again!

Not a bad beer, and another sampled during our last visit to the Liberal Cup over Christmas. Slightly dark amber when served. It had uniform small bubbles making up the head. Aroma was very clean. Mouthfeel was pretty smooth, with some hop bitterness and astringency, definitely not an over-hopped brew. Pleasant. pat

Alewife Ale poured a copper-amber color with a thin white head that left before I had a chance to get to know it. No noticeable lacing on the glass. The aroma was slightly floral with a hint of sweetness. The taste started with a pleasant blend of malt flavors that was quickly balanced by hop bitterness and a touch of citrus. The finish was crisp with a nice dose of carbonation and hop bitterness trying to hold back the malty sweetness. Aftertaste was a lingering faint hoppiness. Mouthfeel was medium light and very easy to drink.
Overall a better than average Red Ale. Needed to be a bit bolder in the aroma department and a bit better balance between the carbonation and the malt flavors. Also needs to be served a bit warmer so as to smell and taste the first quarter of your glass.

Beer was clear, coppery red brown, with a smallish head of off white foam that left a little lace.
Aroma was herbal hops, not very strong, but the beer was poured colder than I normally like.
Nice flavor of toasty malt up front, followed by a good dose of bitter hoppiness.
Fairly high carbonation could have been the result of the CO2 draught pour, mouthfeel seemed to be medium, not watery, but not overly rich either.
Overall a nice brew, easy to drink, but not too complex, a nice straightforward beer.
