A transparent straw color filled the glass with a one finger white head that did not linger. Carbonation meandered to the surface, but not in much abundance. The aroma was a mixed bag of pine sap, citrus, sweet grain, and very pungent marijuana with some floral notes lurking in the wings. The taste followed many of of those same notes. Sweet grainy malt up front with some bitterness not far behind. From there the citrus and floral notes dominate with some pine resin. Medium bodied with nice carbonation helped to balance the sweeter notes. Very drinkable and packed full of flavor.

Excellent head production, but it's a touch fizzy and quickly disappears, leaving only a tiny ring around the edge of the glass. No lacing. Very lively golden straw color. Absolutely transparent; I can watch TV through this.

Classic WC IPA aroma: citrus, pine, cracker, and honey. Mildly dank, orange, grapefruit, pine, pepper, mango. Really lovely.

Much sweeter on the palate than I expected - MUCH sweeter. I expected much more bracing bitterness, but that's mostly reserved for the citrus peel finish. Ruby red grapefruit, mango, honey, mild to moderate dankness, lemon. Builds with a nice bitterness through the middle and on the finish, after the initial wave of sugary malt wears off.

Very lively; a touch syrupy. Despite the big body, it's really easy to drink - much easier than most 9% ABV IPAs. You could really gulp this one down if you so chose - but do so at your own risk.

At first, this was too sweet for me, but it really grew on me with each sip. I don't know how well they nailed the "classic" WC IPA character, considering they used very new hop varietals; it's probably fair to say they came as close as possible to recreating a classic style with modern hops. Could certainly be more bitter, but it's not lacking.

Can dated Hops Ninjas 10/08/20 into an imperial nonic pint glass.

L: Bright golden with 1+ finger of mixed density white head with good retention and left windshield lacing.

S: Nice super dank and earthy, but a bit one dimensional. Once it warms it gains some berries and tropical fruit undertones.

T: Follows the nose well, but more dynamic with tropical fruit (particularly papaya and pineapple) having more prominence. Finishes with medium-high bitterness and some acidity, acidity lingers a bit.

F: Medium bodied with medium carbonation, tongue tingles subtly from the ABV and acidity.

O: Its a solid West Coast DIPA that has a mix of classic and modern attributes. Not sure I'd grab another, but part of that may be the use of Enigma hops in this recipe, which I've yet really find appealing.
