1,90 Euros/0,5 L at die Bieroteck, Bamburg, DE.
Flip top bottle dated 20.08.17 at 65 degrees served in a dinky hotel glass. Opens with a resounding “POP”.
Aroma – malt.
Head – small (Maximum two mm, controlled pour), light brown, dense, above average retention time, diminishing to a thin layer and a lacing ring covering the entire glass surface above the layer.
Lacing – complete ring of mostly tiny to small bubbles.
Body – dark brown, clear.
Flavor – toasted malt, slightly sweet. No hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl. Ends with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Palate – medium, creamy, soft carbonation.
I’m drinking this warmer than what I would like, but it’s still a very tasty beer.
Appearance 4.25, Aroma 4.25, Flavor 4.5, Palate 4.25, Overall 4.5.

From the flip top bottle, it ours a reddish brown, mahogany, with a nice light brown head, slowly diminishing to a thin layer. There may be a very slight haze, it is hard to tell. Some caramel malt in the nose. The mouth gets some caramel malt as well. Well made dunkel!

Poured form half liter bottle into German glass mug (stein). Despite note above, this beer should still be available as of January 2012. Short head faded to tan skin covering surface. Minimal lacing on glass. Deep, dark coffee color. Taste is stronger than smell. Good roast graininess apparent in first taste. No strong aftertaste. A good winter warmer. Enjoying with some smoked German sausages,,,,

Purchased from the "Beers of Europe" - a British online beer shop. 4.7%abv., BB 18/10/08, served chilled in a pint-size weizen glass.
A: ultra elegant is the hue - dark ruby-brown in colour, topped with a tight, creamy and well-sustaining dark beige froth, while the carbonation is lively with unstopping flows of tiny pearl bubbles... leaving uneven sheets of tight lacing behind.
S: rather fruity for a German Dunkel, the toasted dark fruits and caramely edge of malts come in harmony, accompanied by light mangos, syrupy chest-nutty sweetness of Munich malts, while a refreshing edge of a healthy lager stays constantly in the background... Really really enjoyable...
T: most different is the taste than other Dunkels... the caramelised fruits/plums and chestnut cake seem to dominate the foretaste, gradually yielding a bitter-sweet edge of aromatic toffee (or very creamy coffee) and toasted dark malts, a touch of raisins, then followed by a spring of hop bitterness and sweet tea that leads towards a very light, soothing aftertaste of German hops, a mild lingering taste of toastiness and a healthy dose of sourness that any good lager should demonstrate...
M&D: quite clean and refreshing on the palate with a rather smooth touch of carbonation, this Dunkel somehow changes my opinion on this beer style, that I thought they are not all straight-forwardly toasty and sweet! The level of fruitiness shown in this bottle provides an extra pleasure to the whole tasting experience, that for a moment I thought I was sniffing a really fruity Premium Bitter!

I picked up a bottle of this at a store in Rothenburg... It pours a clear, deep, rich mahogany hue with a steady stream of bubbles rising surfacewards. Head was light tan, creamy looking, and comprised of fine, tight bubbles, and leaves nice lacing. Nose emits roasty notes with some caramel, yet it is understated. Body could perhaps have a bit more fullness (currently a smidge under medium) but it has a nice, creamy feel on the tongue. Taste has a healthy amount of roasty notes, with touches of caramel, and it is fairly dry. It has a minimal amount of hoppiness, and it also seems to have a small amount of sweetness, reminding me of some doppelbocks. Whatever bitterness present (little to start) fades as the Bier warms. I like it! Zum Wohl!!
