looks like an older recipe that has been revived recently at their big island brewery, was on tap when i was just there. one of my least favorites from our multiple visits though, like overly malty yet also exceedingly minimal to the point where it really doesnt smell or taste like much. these guys seem hellbent on packing all their beers with crystal malt, just about all of them heavier because of it than they need to be, or than the islands demand. this one though seems devoid of much character, its a nice rich copper color and comes to the table with a little off white head left on it, clarity is fine and all, but it just sort of smells and tastes like a light barley stew, not as rich as it looks like it will be, and it seems almost without hops, like it never really finishes, but in part i guess because it never really starts. nothing offensive but it just is lacking. light pretzel character, perhaps subtle lager yeast in play, light breadiness, some minerals, and just a bit of a honey type sweetness, but the thing i notice the most is that its wet in my mouth, which i think is the bare minimum for a beer, but thats what comes to mind here. honestly its crazy how little is happening, especially given the color, had to immediately drink my wifes beer to make sure i didnt have covid or something, all good. not bad, but not good either, not much of anything, really confusing, this is probably one they can retire again...

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and decent lacing. Smells of slight sweet malt, slight caramel malt, slight hops, and a hint of biscuit. Fits the style of a California Common / Steam Beer. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, caramel malt, slight hops, slight hint of yeast, and a hint of biscuit. Overall, decent common, very similar to an Anchor Steam.

This is a combination of Kona's Longboard Lager and their Firerock IPA.
A: Very Light and clean
S: Clean and citrus-like.
T&M: Hoppy, Mild, Dry near the end. Has a long lasting mouthfeel to it.
D: For any hot weather climate, this one is easily drinkable beer to quench your thirst.
