A 12oz glass of the current seasonal, commemorating the 5000th batch of beer at the brew-house, and apparently a complimentary pint - cheers!
This beer appears a clear, medium golden amber hue, with one commanding finger of densely foamy ecru head, which leaves some consistent coral arch lace around the glass as it slowly seeps away.
It smells nicely of multi-varied citrus and tropical fruit - pineapple, blood orange, papaya, and mild earthy mango - with a wee bit of creamy caramel malt sitting brooding in the background. The taste is bitter citrus rind, moderate pine resin, soused tropical fruit, sturdy caramel/toffee malt, and an isolated zingy booze edge.
The bubbles are a tad frizzy, the body an even medium weight, with welterweight aspirations, and pretty darned smooth, a somewhat damning indictment of the overall hop influence, one might ironically proffer. It finishes actually rather sweet, the malt the beneficiary of the waning, but still not all that lacking, hop factor.
A decent enough DIPA, but not quite up to the standard bearers of the vaunted mainland West Coast. Drinkable for the strength, however, but not exactly memorable in the same vein.
