Poured from a pint can into a tulip. My first taste of a newer local brewer.
The brew is dark murky amber with an ample steady tan head that subsides into nice lacing. It' may be a shade dark for the style, but it's still inviting.
The brew is billed as a peanut butter dunkel, but it first lends bread dough/yeast, banana and faint spice aromas. The nuts are there, but they are well-restrained. That's good, because the aroma is a bit underwhelming in strength overall.
The brew hits the tip of the tongue with anticipated caramel-malt sweetness, including some overripe banana ester; but the wheat shines through in midstream, where the sturdy but still restrained nutty flavor comes through, along with some clove. The finish is perhaps a bit sweet even for the style, but very good. Again, not as flavorful as some, but still well done and balanced. I think some judicious roasted/toasted additions in the malts would have made this about perfect because it would have lent a bit more flavor and something to cut through the sweet.
The mouthfeel is solid. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Not heavy but fairly filling. Wouldn't see myself having more than one of these in a sitting.
A really solid example of the style that just needs a little more aroma and taste to help it shine.
