Poured from a pint can into a tulip.
Pours opaque dark brown, nearly black, and a bit viscous. Not imperial-stout thick, but a bit more stick than an ordinary porter.
Complex aromas. Hints of dark chocolate, toasted/roasted barley, bits of coffee and earthy/floral hops--a solid hit of those for sure. And some minty notes in the background.
Caramel and roasted malts--sweet and bitter on the tip of the tongue. Nice mix of flavors in midstream--simple but solid. Coffee, cocoa, anise, ash, char. Minty flavors also. Ample earthy and floral hops and a touch of booze warmth at the finish. Shaded less sweet and more bitter compared to many porters.
Medium bodied and mostly creamy; it still finishes well.
Overall a very "American" American Porter. It hits all the right porter notes, but also delivers some good hop bitterness, and ashy astringency. The minty spicy notes are special.
