A - Pours a solid black-brown, light tan head that fades to a wispy cap, and fine bubbled lacing lines up raggedly down the glass.
S - Typical for an English Porter, high on limestone and clay, a subtler toasted malt below, and just a hint of grassy greenness. The result is something very much like the air during a day walking in the countryside.
T - Less a landscape, more a piece of toast. Quite dry, with a hint of bread over a note of char, the earthiness of the nose coming in during the close, and a brisk acidity that finishes things clean. Impressively, the experience is not the chocolate and coffee bomb that a lot of porters and stouts deliver. As it warms, a subtle sweetness does come forward in the middle, but the close remains sharp and clean.
M - Moderate carbonation, fairly light weight, as expected, given the ABV, and a dry close.
O - I wouldn't immediately look for a traditional English Porter in Sioux Falls, but I got one. Quite enjoyable.
