This pours dark and headless, with smallish bubbles and low-moderate carbonation. I suspect there would have been a thicker head if this had come from a tap, but mine poured from a crowler.
Aroma is roasted malt, toasted sugar, and just more than a touch of raisin.
Taste is roasted malt sweetness fading to just the right amount of very light astringency and bitterness. Mouth feel is enjoyable, but a little light for the genre.
Lightness is, in fact, my only critique of this ale. This is a little more “wee” than “heavy.” This is to be expected, given the relatively low ABV. For many these lighter qualities will be appreciated. I should add that this ale is, blessedly, free of smokiness/peat.
This is a good middle ground between Scottish Ales and the stronger Wee Heavies.
