Clear, dark red amber brew with long-lasting foam in the Timmermanns goblet. Lush and sudsy on the tongue. Flavors of burnt sugar, raisins, prunes, and a clean heat. Even a lemony finish. Just enough yeasty esters but not overly drying and not the dominating taste.
Maybe I was just in the mood for something strong and less hoppy, but this is quite delicions. It seems to strike the right balance among the sugar, tanginess, and bitter-- not too much of anything, but still robustly flavored. Strong but not so alcohol-tasting. From the 750 ml corked and caged bottle purchased at Garden Path.
