Poured from 500mL bottle into a tulip. Bottled on 10/20/19, this is listed as a 100% barrel-fermented saison.
Appearance: brownish-golden hue with a moderate haze and a finger of frothy ivory foam. I gotta say, for a saison, it's pretty dark & murky.
Smell: sweet malty base with a fairly spicy and funky aroma. To me, it has some rye-beer characteristics (that kind of spiciness), plus a little hint of phenolic aroma. I don't think of it as a traditional saison, but it is definitely "farmhousey" and interesting.
Taste: the flavor pretty much delivers on the promises of the aroma. Spicy and funky, although not too much so; the sweetness is a nice balance and overall it's an interesting, autumnal beer.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a low level of carbonation and creaminess. It's not super inspiring to me.
Overall: this is an interesting beer. It doesn't say rye anywhere on the label but the flavor sure feels like it to me. The only real disappointment here is the texture -- this beer needs more carbonation.
