Short Throw Brewing "Clans, Posses, Crews & Cliks"
16 fl. oz. can; production coding is illegible
$4 @ Kunda Beverage, King of Prussia, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: Well that's a name, huh? I'm hoping the beer itself will be better. There's nothing on the label other than "INDIA PALE ALE 6.8% ALC. BY VOL." so let's see. It's poured a very hazy yellow-gold body beneath a two finger thick head of fluffy white foam. The aroma is bright with citrusy and resin. I'm getting grapefruit, a hint of lemon/lime, some peach... melon... gooseberry (is this brewed with some Nelson Sauvin?)... and lychee. There's not a lot of malt to it which is fine. On to the taste... the malt is indeed basic, and I'm guessing mostly 2-row with some oats and a little bit of wheat. The hops remain pretty much exactly as they're found in the aroma. Let me run through the list and check... yes indeed. I'm also getting some sweet apple and just a hint of berry. It's not that bitter but it's not sweet. It's a moderate to median bitterness. The more basic malt allows the hops to come through nicely, and they're very well balanced against one another. It finishes mainly dry with some residual resin and ctirusy-tropical fruitiness lingering shortly. I guess what we have here is a New England style IPA. In a way it's straightforward and kind of basic all around except that there's actually a lot going on within the hops. It seems citrusy, juicy, and resinous upfront but when you dig in a little bit you get those other tropical fruits that round it out. Nicely done. The head has held up really well and I still have a solid & foamy surface covering. There are good sized craggy rings of lace where the head began and then some pretty decent patches beneath. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and gently crisp. I don't think the name fits very well but they can call it whatever they want if it's this good! I could drink this at any time of the year, even in the dark and cold of winter, but those refreshing, citrusy and tropical hop notes make me think this would be a great summer beer even at 6.8%.

Poured from a pint can into a pint glass. Beautiful full white head, 4 fingers deep, with excellent lacing. The body of the beer is light apricot in color. Delicious fruity aroma with a citrus on the nose. The first sip doesn't disappoint, and is as tasty as the aroma would indicate, with a perfect balance of citrusy flavor and hoppy bitterness. An excellent IPA by Short Throw.
