Today's forecast calls for one hundred percent of haze. And with a deep breath and an eye on Citra and Strata hops, Short Throw Brewing pours on the haze with their New England IPA that's perfect to weather any storm in life.
Predictably milky straw in its pour, the creamy ale patiently releases a bone-white billowing froth. With the gentle and simmering scents of citrus, tropical fruit, berry and herb wafting about, the first flavor impressions are malty-sweet while cereal-laced and starchy with suggestions of shortbread, honeysuckle and cookie dough.
As the hops slowly steal the show, the brightness of that hop tandem brings a juicy and radiant taste of branch-ripe orange, white grapefruit and with a lemon-like nudge. As more tropical flavors of passionfruit, papaya and pawpaw fold into the fruity mix, a late turn to currant and lemon balm have the late taste trending herbal, smooth and with a sassy bitterness for balance.
Medium bodied and carrying a creamier, starchier sweetness into the finish, the bittersweetness favors the sweet just slightly. Tea-like with hints of gin botanicals and fresh hemp, the finish is sprucy, cedar-like and peppery with a medium length aftertaste of citronella and verbena.
