Collaboration with Evil Twin Brewing

It's no secret that Jeppe from Evil Twin likes to do it big, and that's the attitude we took with Even More Nobility. We took his Even More Jesus stout approach and flipped it over our Low Brow Nobility stout. Then we did it big by adding amounts of toasted coconut and maple syrup that approach ridiculous. But we're good with that. Huge dark chocolate Mounds meets maple glazed Long John vibes.

I am sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter.
Canned on date on bottom of can is 11/22/2021. Been in my cellar for a while, not sure why I havent opened it till now, but here we are.
The beer pours a jet black color with no light passing through my glass. A dense tan head foams up about 2 cm and slowly fades to a sturdy surface covering with dense lattice on the sides of my glass.
Aroma is rich sweet fudge and cocoa powder with a little bit of charred malt (or barrel?) label doesnt mention barrel aging but there is definitely charred notes on the aroma, pretty strong actually. Not boozy on the nose and no hops either. Fudge and char dominant at this point.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine gentle carbonation. Texture is soft and fairly smooth, but I do get a little coating on my palate. Drinks dangerously easy on physical traits for a 15% brew.
Flavor is similar to the nose with dark fudge, some sweet chocolate and weirdly I am getting a faint hit of cinnamon. Maybe that is a spicy bite from the ABV, but I keep tasting cinnamon. No hop character anywhere on this beer.
Not overly complex, but what it has definitely works well.

16 ounce can, dating on the bottom is smudged so I can't read the date. I've had this can a while though so I know it's got a bit of age on it anyway. Thanks to Brutaltruth for this! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch or so tan head. Head retention and lacing are both pretty good. The brew smells like roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, coconut, nuts and molasses. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some maple, coffee, earthy and cream flavors noticeable too. Recommend letting this one warm up even more than usual before drinking it. Started off subtle but then it really opened up as it warmed. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick and a bit creamy and syrupy with a moderate amount of carbonation. If you like big stouts then give this one a try, pick up a can or 2 if you get the chance.

Drank from a one pint can purchased at Bier Haus, Portland, ME
Canned on 11/22/2021
Served in a tulip

Very impressive appearance. The inky, full bodied, near pitch black liquid was topped by a tight and creamy, saddle brown head that quickly broke apart. A thin, lasting ringlet encircled the beer. After each sip, a latticework of patchy, drippy lacing tricked down the sides of the glass.

The aroma was outstanding. Super rich and intense. Toasted coconut notes came through big time. Loads of milk and dark chocolate notes too. This definitely reminded me of a Mounds candy bar. Sweet overall but not excessively so. Caramel malts were also apparent. Good dose fragrant vanilla bean too. Perhaps a touch of maple-like sweetness. Boozy, bourbon-like notes were also detectable.

The flavor profile picked up where the flavor profile left off. Uber malty and robust. Nice melding of roasted and sweet caramel malt notes. Toasted coconut again came through strong. Loads of semisweet chocolate too. Some vanilla was noticeable in the center. A Mounds candy bar again came to mind. Boozy bourbon-like notes kicked in as beer moved along the palate. At 15% however, the alcohol was remarkably well buried. There was a bit more lingering roast and booze on the back end and the finish.

Terrific rich, full bodied mouthfeel. Creamy, slick and smooth on the palate. Impressive but perhaps a touch thinner than anticipated. After a few sips, the sugars in the beer deposited a slightly sticky film on my lips.

Short Throw make some fantastic pastry stouts, and this collaboration with Evil Twin is one of their best to date. The toasted coconut notes were intense but not overdone, and the alcohol was incredibly well buried. I would gladly drink this again.

Virtually no head production. A thin brown ring eventually settles around the edges of the glass.

Dark, inviting, sweet nose, with notes of maple, chocolate, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, coffee, nuts, vanilla. I can pick up coconut knowing it's there, but it's not prominent enough on the nose that I would have recognized it as such had I not known.

Thick, chewy, and creamy on the palate. There's enough heft to know it's a very big beer, but there's no hint of aggressive booziness that would alarm you to its full power.

Rich and decadent on the palate, but only a step above moderately sweet, arguably dessert stout territory, but not over the top. Definitely an argument to be made for pastry stout. Tasting notes include coconut (more prominent than on the nose), caramel, chocolate, red grape, pecan, coffee, molasses, honeycomb, vanilla, maple - all in some order. It's so thick and rich that it's a bit of an overload on the palate.

Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger thick creamy tan/brown colored head that faded very slowly and left excellent lacing coating the sides of the glass. Smells of cocoa powder, bakers chocolate, roasted nuts, molasses, dark chocolate, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, smoked grains, hot fudge, caramel and hints of a vanilla latte.

The taste is very heavy on chocolate with the dark chocolate, roasted malts, cocoa powder, coconut, metallic accents and syrup coming off like molasses or a Mounds candy. There’s hints of vanilla, Oreo cookies, brown sugar, marshmallows burnt over a campfire and smoky flavors like maple syrup aged in a charred bourbon barrel. The fact they there’s zero sign of the 15% ABV and no burn made this an ideal dessert stout. The Evil Twin influence is front and center, making this a very enjoyable beer.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high dense mocha-colored head that died down but never completely faded away.
S: Light to moderate aromas of toasted coconut are present in the nose along with notes of chocolate fudge.
T: The taste follows the smell but has stronger flavors of toasted coconut and chocolate fudge with additional notes of maple syrup. Some hints of alcohol are perceptible.
M: It feels full-bodied and very smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is like drinking a liquid candy bar. I found it to be quite drinkable considering its strength but in an event this is a beer that is nice and complex and something that you would want to slowly sip and savor.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear thick viscous jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark chestnut brown + dark cola brown colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense creamy foamy dark mocha head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of rich dark chocolate + maple syrup over slightly stronger than moderate aromas of roasted + dark + caramel + chocolate + toasted malts with moderate to strong amounts of caramel + lactose + maple sweetness. Moderate aromas of toasted coconut and hints of earthy hops.

T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted + dark + caramel + chocolate + toasted malts with moderate to strong amounts of caramel + lactose + maple sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of toasted coconut and moderate to strong flavors of rich dark chocolate + maple syrup. Finally there is a hint of earthy hops. There is a light to moderate amount of roasty bitterness which fades pretty quickly and leaves moderate rich sweet chocolate + maple flavors lingering.

M: Full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth, almost creamy and thick.

O: Drinks fairly easy considering the strength and a rich thick full bodied mouthfeel. Enjoyable though this is a very sweet beer, thus somewhat a slow sipper for me (and there is no way I could have more than one of these in a session). Tons of chocolate + maple syrup with lighter toasted coconut.

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This beast pours a deep oily black
with a nice head of brown foam that settles to a thick ring, thin swirling
layer, and shows some nice light lacing. Nose of dark chocolate, toasted
coconut, subtle dark coffee, deep roast and char, brown sugars, and astringent
booze notes. Flavors excel with dark chocolate, dark coffee, coconut, maple,
brulee, marshmallow cream, dark brown sugars, black strap molasses touches,
and earthy malt touches. Very nice mouth feel; smooth, rich, coating, light
carbonation with some subtle lift, very warming, and finishing full, sweet, and
with a balanced bitter malt note.

Overall---excellence!

Cheers

Purchased a 4 pack for $19 at my favorite store. Not a bad deal, in fact a most excellent deal considering this beer is weighing in at 15%. Cracked open on a calm Saturday night just before a game of Trivial Pursuit. I have already downed one of these earlier while i was playing the piano but didn't pay much attention to it so now i'll give it a proper review. Poured out the liquid thick and black with super dark head that dissipated quickly. This beer smells all like brown sugar and caramel mixed together, as if you put them in a pan, heated them, and stirred them up. A slight note of chocolate but not too much, and this is a robustly strong and powerful smelling beer. I love it, actually. This beer tastes exactly like it smellls, powerful caramel and brown sugar, strong molasses and dark chocolate, slight bitter notes of coffee, and a wash of sweetness comparable to a taste of a pancake soaked in maple syrup. Mouthfeel is incredibly thick and bubbly, syrupy like a candy but not too cloying. I won't be able to drink this quickly, it is a slow sipper due to its thickness and sweetness. That's not a bad thing though, as I'm really liking the taste. Overall, I think it's a little too much on the sweet side for top marks, but holds such dominant cards in richness and power that makes it competetitve with some of my favorite brews. And at 15% oh dear lord you can f#$k me all night long. Totally digging it, let's do it again next week.

This is my second attempt at enjoying a beer from Short Throw Brewing. I say that because I believe I got approximately three sips into the first one I had from them (some kind of gross sour that looked like a regurgitated smoothie) before drain-pouring it. This is a collab with Evil Twin, though, and it brings back the classic "Even More Jesus" base stout recipe/concept that Jeppe conceived about a decade ago. I think that means I should be able to trust it slightly more, right? Funny I mention trust and feeling confident about having it, though; nowhere on this label does it say this beer contains coconut and maple syrup, but... lo and behold, it does. That is pretty much immediate grounds for me to be a bit upset with the brewers involved here because not labeling potential allergens is super dangerous. Anyway, let's get into it.

The pour here is thick, tar-black, and viscous. It builds up a strong showing of foamy suds, measuring about two fingers of deep brown "go fuck yourself stout"-esque bubbles that stick around like a collar before sinking to a thin ring. Awesome, consistent lace here, and the legs aren't bad either. I do have a feeling the adjuncts affected the head retention, though, because that initial formation is quite ephemeral and can't really even be built back up consistently upon subsequent pours. Oh well, still overall looks good.

Nose is very coconut forward, so I immediately knew this had to have at least some type of adjunct additions in it. Given that the can says nothing about the maple and coconut additions, this was my first hint to do some research on the beer. I can't really condone this type of flippant attitude towards disclosing additional ingredients in beer, so I'm going to go ahead and shun them immediately for that, but the good news is that this smells really freaking good. It's definitely dark chocolate-forward, so it has a Mounds bar-like element to it, and the sweetness of the maple is a nice backing note that gives off a hint of woodiness.

Super thick and sweet on the palate, with a diabetic shock-inducing level of residual sugars that would make even the most veteran Southern Tier enjoyer's blood sugar rise, but at least the flavors are well-defined and consistent. I think I would prefer the base stout to come out a bit more, but I will commend this for tasting nowhere near 15% ABV given all that's going on here. Slick coconut marries with toffee and caramel richness that bring about a definite dessert-like quality. This is a nice beer to have as a treat, and good for the holiday season for sure... but between the non-disclosure of ingredients and the specific/not-really-complex flavor profile, I'm gonna say this is a one-and-done.
