great morning and hangover beer, they did this one right, with a cold brewed coffee character leading the way in a somewhat light stout in terms of body and residual sugar, no acidity at all to the coffee, lots of roast though, and kind of an irish dry style base to me, but without anything from the yeast really at all in this. i love the lack of richer middle malts, i dont miss them in the least and this is balanced even in their absence. some cool specialty dark grain in here id imagine, lots of roasted barley, and some oats likely too to smooth this out, a long beer with all the coffee nuance, even though its clean and dry. served on nitro, which is just right for this, so creamy and frothed up feeling, its just right. black as night, matte in luster, not a ton of apparent body, and a strong coffee aroma, to me out in front of any beer elements but still cohesive and unified. dark chocolate, light tobacco and smoke, even a light vanilla note, all of which come through in the taste too, espresso to me more than drip, a darker roast, high quality beans, nice extraction, low acid, strong brew, definitely a caffeine kick to this and a few of them would get buzzy for sure. the nitro makes the texture epic for this, like crema on espresso, i love the back end bitterness, its not harsh, and the coffee decadence stays with me on the palate awhile. really well executed, roasty and deep and simple but high quality, even elegant. great base stout, nice use of the coffee, dialed!
