I had this on draught at Rushing Duck as a "guest tap" offering. 12 oz. pour served in a snulip glass. It pours a dense, murky, muddy pastel tangerine color with a half finger of creamy, milk-white head and thick, clinging lacing. The smell is sensational with lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine, and soft floral hops. Its taste isn't nearly as sweet as the nose would indicate. There is tart, somewhat bitter lemon and grapefruit over a strong malty cracker.The Nelson hops provide a subtle, dry white wind grape and the Strata contributes a dry, earthy taste. I'm not tasting the tropical flavors I'd expect from the Maciknac hops. The mouth feel is thick and creamy with solid carbonation, and the 8.5% ABV gives it good substance. Overall, this is a terrific DIPA. My first from the brewery but it won't be my last. I'm impressed.
