Type: Black Kölsch
Serving Style: Draft 19.2 oz. glass mug.
ABV: 4.5%
Head: Thick vigorous head, coating sticks, head remains for at least a minute.
Colour: Deep chocolate brown, almost black
Smell: Espresso
Taste: Similar to an alcoholic cold-brew, heavy espresso flavour. Drier cocoa notes become evident. Has a sharp edge to it, not unlike espresso thats cooled.
Body: Full, not quite stout like but more of a black läger.
Final Notes: Stout character with a fraction of the alcohol content. An interesting experiment that sits between a stout and a black läger in character.
The espresso combined with the hops gave an astringent aftertaste that made it hard to have another. It was a little too like an espresso. The taste would be greatly improved by mellowing the coffee or cutting the hops. Maybe taking a page from a honey kolsch and cutting it with something smoother.
