Sampling a cellar temp 22 oz wax sealed bottle poured into my snifter. The beer was purchased at the brewery a few days ago.
The beer pours a rich cola brown color with no light passing through when I hold up my glass to the light. A dense creamy tan head foams up about 1.5 cm and fades to a thin edge layer after several minutes. Some thin scattered lattice develops when I swirl the glass.
The aroma is very strong with fresh coffee, almost too much in my opinion. The coffee is dominant and roasty with an almost slight acidity to the smell, if that makes sense. I do get a bit of dark chocolate and faint whiffs of bourbon, but this nose is black coffee through and through.
First sip reveals a light to medium body with smooth mouthfeel and very fine and spacious carbonation. Soft physical traits make this one easy to drink.
Flavor is similar to the nose, lots of black coffee, some roasted malt notes and a little bit of bourbon and brown sugar. The finish moves back to coffee, but here it is slightly sweeter coffee. I dont get hops anywhere and the booze is completely hidden, making this slightly dangerous at 11% ABV. I found the coffee to be a little overwhelming and forced the beer to be slightly one dimensional, but if that is your thing you will probably like this beer.
