Billed as a "hazy IPA," featuring Amarillo, Galaxy, and Idaho 7 hops, along with yeast from Vermont.
Ministry of Brewing is a lovely facility: a very old church, incredibly well-maintained. The beer only has a limited distribution and they don't often change up the artwork enough to make it easy to distinguish one brew from the next.
The more traditional, European styles they brew are a bit hit or miss. Nothing horrible, but often not good enough to warrant the price.
When it comes to the more contemporary American styles, however, they've lately been hitting it out of the park. And Planetary (a word I have a strange difficulty spelling) is no exception.
It's made in the style of the Foundation, Bissel Bros., Hill Farmstaed, and Trillium intentionally hazy, hop oil-drenched IPAs that came into fashion about 6 years ago. It's the best iteration of this style I've come across that wasn't made by one of those august breweries, and easily the best from Maryland.
Looks like a cheese milkshake but not, like, gross. There's a consistency to the appearance that is sadly neglected in so many lesser attempts toward this style.
The aroma is pleasantly blunt and punchy, citrus fruit that's firm but not overwhelming, and no clear hint of its higher ABV.
Flavor is very much the same as the aroma: direct, minimal variegation, but perfectly rounded and surprisingly balanced for such a hop-forward beer.
