Clear dark amber color. Poured a medium head that dropped down to a patchy skiff after a minute. High flow of small and medium sized bubbles from the bottom of the glass. Left small dots of lacing.
Sweet rye malt scent dominates. Slight maple syrup smell. Mild coffee scent. Swirling the glass kicked up a barnyard smell for a couple of seconds.
Mildly sweet maple syrup gets replaced with the rye malt as it warms a bit. The coffee flavor builds from nothing to moderate strength as it warms - like a coffee toffee. Mild bitter. The aftertaste is a stronger bitter as the coffee fades.
Vigorous foaming. Light tongue tingling for a few seconds as it quickly turns into a thick foam and then a lighter large bubbled foam. Somewhat oily or even gummy towards the end.
Very interesting. I'm not a big fan of coffee beers, but this has a lighter touch than most I have had. The carbonation is quite lively, but it works well with the oily feel. About the only thing I didn't really like is that this is on the sweeter side.
