Pours a shiny, completely opaque dark black color. Huge velvety, pillowy chocolate brown colored head forms on the beer, settles in, and then eventually slowly dissolves. Lots of sticky lacing is left behind on the glass as its consumed. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, some light char, and a hint of sweet caramel and toffee. The sweetness comes through lightly on the nose.
Taste has notes of roasted malts, lightly charred with some subtle, sweet smoked notes - a bit reminiscent of a hickory smoked ham with sweet glaze - there are some light piney hops on the back half peeping through and then there is the sweetness that has this caramel/toffee character to it. There is a certain charred ashiness to the flavor on the finish that lingers on the palate. Feel is pretty thick and almost syrupy. Smooth, gentle, but lively carbonation.
Overall its a solid, nice sweet stout. I enjoyed drinking it.
