Idiom w/Cacao

Canned in a crowler, purchased from the brewery today. Superb head retention of lovely tan pillowy mound. Dark brown and opaque with ruby edges. Smell is cocoa and roast, but with a harsh ethanol edge (cacao extract?) and mace comes forward near the end once it warmed. Flavor also has that harshness at the end, which is interesting because it isn’t a particularly boozy beer by any means. Unfortunate quality that significantly lowers the enjoyment. Would be WAY better without that aspect. Still pretty good. I am eager to try the other variants to see if they lack that whiff of harsh alcohol.
