Another Kelheim property, though not right downtown. I had to take a bus, and then it was about 12-15 minutes on foot to the Gasthof.
I entered the front door into a hall/foyer. Ahead was a door leading to a large dining room which seemed to be hosting a private party of some sort. So I opted for door #2, on the right. This led to their regular Stube. Lovely room with plenty of light wood tables, chairs, cabinets, shelves, etc. Very bright and airy. Lovely carved design on the light wood ceiling, too. Had a Stammtisch in the left corner, and about 7 tables (for 6-8 people each) in the small, rectangular room. Lots of mugs on the shelves, and dried hops hanging here and there. 'Twas warm and comfy. I asked upon entering what they had. Was told by the young Frau a Pils, Helles and Dunkel. Some lit I had picked up earlier seems to indicate they have only 3 biers: Helles, Pils and Märzen. I had quaffed the Märzen earlier whilst in Essing, so I was familiar with it. Hmmm... a Dunkel? I'll try it. Out comes a bier no darker than medium golden/copper. Pretty bready and toasty, too. Seems like their Märzen to me. Looked at my notes and seemed spot on. Asked the Fräulein about this and she still said it was a Dunkel. Oh well, half a point off!! And no soup for you!! Nonetheless, still a nice little stop in Kelheim. And the Märzen is real nice!!! ;-)
Prosit!!
