Our Ritterguts Spezial-Gose is a crossover between Belgian Wit and Leipzig Style Gose. Brewed with various wheat and barley malts, spiced with bergamot peel from Italy, coriander seed and salt. For this new creation we use a lot more hops – Summit for bittering, Cascade and Aurora for the citrus-like aroma. This seasonal specialty is brewed only once a year and is available regularly in May.

500ml bottle into a small glass. No freshness dating except "best before end of month". It is released in May, but this one might be pre 2023.

Nice looking beer. Glassy amber body, small white head, spirals of carbonation. Aroma is lime and a touch briney. Taste follows the nose, fruit peel used is a type of orange which tastes more like a lime. Salt on the lips, tart, and and drying. Apparently well hopped, but these have faded.

Very nice beer in hot weather.

500ml bottle. Poured out a clear, golden yellow color with a small, off-wite head of bubbly foam. It left minimal lacing on the glass. It smelled of lemon, saltiness, wheat and yeastiness. Tart but not overly sour with lemon, wheat and yeast.

Ritterguts Gose "Spezial-Gose"
,5 L brown glass bottle without freshness dating
$5.75 @ State Line Liquors, Elkton, MD

Notes via stream of consciousness: This is an odd one, brewed with bergamot peel, coriander seed, and Cascade and Aurora hops. It's poured a hazy amber colored body beneath a standard-sized head of white. The aroma displays lime and lightly bready malt. Not surprisingly, the taste follows. The lime flavor is very clear, which is surprising because there's no lime involved. Now bergamot is a citrusy fruit so maybe that's what I'm tasting. I definitely get a little of that character you get in Earl Grey tea, but I've never actually tasted bergamot so I can't say. I don't really get the coriander seed but there is a woodiness to it. The acidity is very clean, and fairly light. I'm not sure how to describe its intensity exactly but I'll say that it's not puckeringly sour by any means. It's not bitter at all, most gose aren't because it's not needed with the acidity, and I'm going to guess it's down around 10 or 12 IBUs. It's a really interesting gose, and remarkably refreshing. Its light-medium body and gentle effervescence add to its refreshing quality. All in all I'd have to say that this is one of the best gose beers I've ever tasted.

a cool version of a gose here, kind of a hybrid with a wit, orange peel, coriander, and salt in the mix here, a nice summery sipper and an affordable bottle too, i think i got this for under seven bucks, its easily worth that. a little more orange in color than anticipated, but pretty clear too, brassy and shiny, nice pillowy white head on it, plenty of bubbles. aroma is puckery tart and lactic up front, some lemon notes combine with the fragrant orange peel to really make my mouth water. some minerals from the salt also seem evident, clean and bright and nice to me, equal parts wit and gose to my senses. the flavor is excellent, the floral coriander adds a lot, the salt dries it out, and there is a lot of wheat character in this, giving it an earthy cereal base and a lot of body for what it is. saltiness and sourness work well together, both pretty prominent, very citrusy, a neat fusion of styles here. its slightly more substantial and filling than i want it to be, and its best when its nice and cold, but this is a really cool beer overall, something very distinctive and well done. very enjoyable, fairly priced, and a winner for my gose loving wife as well!

0.5l on tap.

Described as a cross of witbier and gose.

Clear golden, head is typically weak but leaves a faint yet persistent lace.

Aroma is the salty, tart gose nose except a tad more fruitiness to it.

Taste has a very pleasant creamy feel, much better than in the bottle version. As in best sours always, in my book at least. Smooth tartness, spicy coriander/bergamot in the middle, a sweet fruit/salt marriage shines throughout. All basic tastes except bitterness are present in perfect harmony.

Having tasted this in bottle, which is good but lacks the creaminess and smoothness, I recommend the tap version. A classic.
