Twisted Gingers Brewing Co. "Farmhouse Ale w/ Lemon Zest"
$6 / pint at the brewery on 8 February 2020
Look: Clear golden-amber with an orange sheen beneath a short head of creamy off-white foam. Better than average head retention and lacing.
Smell: Fruity (apple, pear), spicy, and plastic-like phenols from the Belgian yeast dominate over a grainy malt based that's backed by a mildly citrusy note.
Taste: The lemon zest comes forward and works well with the apple leaving it fruit-centric, followed by the very lightly sweet grainy and somewhat wheaty malt, and then the spiciness and subtle earthiness of the yeast to finish up. It's not that bitter but it is subtly acidic, and taken together then, it finishes dry with the citrusy fruitiness and a dollop of sweetish maltiness passing shortly, leaving only spiciness and a dusting of dry earthiness behind.
Feel: Light-medium in body and crisp with a fine-bubbled carbonation.
Overall: Quite pleasant and enjoyable. No one would question its status as a saison, even tasted blind.
