Twisted Gingers Brewing Co. "All Thumbs"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$15/4-pk from the brewery on 4 June 2022
Notes via stream of consciousness: "All thumbs" generally means clumsy or awkward with one's hands but the label shows two thumbs-up so I'm not sure what's going on here. It's also a "session IPA" at just 5.5% ABV. It's poured a lightly hazy golden body beneath a thumb's width of white foam. The aroma is fairly bright with some sweetish malt, citrus, a hint of pine, and some delicate floral character. The flavor follows with a firm bitterness that brings it to a dry conclusion with some lemony citrus, pine, and herbal character lingering. It's sweetish upfront but then bitter in the end. There are also notes of apple, a touch of orange, and a hint of sweet red berries. This is labeled as a Midwest style IPA and maybe that's because it's a little bit west coast and a little bit east coast? Maybe not. It's also lebeled as a "MIDWEST STYLE IMPERIAL PALE ALE" which really has me confused. It's superbly balanced across the board, and I was going to say 'especially for a session IPA' but I'm not sure how much of a session IPA it is versus a slightly more bitter pale ale. Whatever it is, it's good! In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. The head has held up well and I still have an almost completely solid surface covering beneath torn sheets of lace floating above. It's interesting, a bit unusual, and refreshing plus it's got a kick of bitterness to it. This is definitely one of my favorite brews from Twisted Gingers.
