Twisted Gingers Brewing Co. "Bryce Cold IPA"
$5/16 fl. oz. can (without production codes or freshness dating) at the brewery on 9 December 2022
Notes via stream of consciousness: A hazy straw gold body is capped by a thumb's width of white foam. The aroma is hoppy, resinous, and somewhat piney. It initially reminds me of Summit hops although I'm not saying that's actually what's in there, just that that's what first came to mind. The flavor actually leads me down that same path though. I'm not sure what they've used but there's an earthiness to it, and what I think of as garlic and onion. That could, of course, be coming from the sulphur produced by the lager yeast in combination with some aspect of the hops. There's some citrusy fruit underneath as well, with grapefruit, tangerine, lemon-lime, mild apple, and a bit of sweet red berry. A touch of pine rounds it out and brings it back to the aroma. A solid bitterness backs it and it's earthy and peppery in the finish with some fruitiness lingering as well. The malt is basic, lightly sweet, and grassy, unless that's the hops talking. It's nicely balanced and rounded. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp. The head has held up quite well and I have a thin but solid cap of creamy foam covering the whole surface. The lacing looks like jagged cliffs along some shoreline with clouds passing overhead. Putting together the numbers here it looks like this one is a winner. The lacing could have been better but I still think it warrants a 4.25 out of 5, and I'll say the same thing for the aroma but everything else is clearly rock solid. I want more of this.
