Twisted Gingers Brewing Co. "Confuse The Robot"
$5/16 fl. oz. can (without production codes or freshness dating) at the brewery on 9 December 2022
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is a little strong to be a mild at 5.3% ABV but let's see. It's poured a seemingly clear and very dark brown body beneath a thumb's width of densely foamy tan. When held to the light there's a glimmer of mahogany and orange along the bottom of the glass and a flag of crimson across the middle. The aroma is malty with chocolate and a hint of nuttiness. The flavor follows with some added fruitiness that's like red apple and Bartlett pear. The chocolate is mild, almost like cocoa powder, and there's a little bit of golden caramel there as well. The nuttiness rounds it out nicely, appearing mainly at the swallow and in the short lingering finish. It's mild in terms of bitterness and along with a light body and smooth carbonation it's remarkably drinkable. For me it's the delightful fruitiness that keeps calling me back for more. This is a really enjoyable mild and although it's a bit stronger than most I can understand why they've done that as so many American drinkers are hesitant to drink anything below 5%. It still comes across in every other way as a dark English mild and I think it's an excellent example of the style.
