Twisted Gingers Brewing Co. "This Is The Way"
$5/16 fl. oz. can (without production codes or freshness dating) at the brewery on 9 December 2022
Notes via stream of consciousness: Having previously enjoyed some fantastic schwarzbiers from the Gingers before I had no hesitation is picking this one up. Let's see if they've still go the magic... it's poured an opaque black body beneath a teo finger thick head of tight-bubbled tan foam. The aroma is limited as it should be with some dark chocolate and a coffee-like roastiness. The flavor is fuller with some bready and golden caramel laced malt supporting the soft dark chocoalte and roasty notes. The head retention on this one is quite good and I've still got a rocky cap going on. Back to the flavor, it's quite clean without any yeasty fruitiness or sulphur. I'm not finding any hops in the mouth but there's a smear of them coming out in the finish. It's moderately bitter but still dry with the roastiness lingering. The pH seems right on, which is important in a dark beer because you can sometimes pick up a little too much dark malt acidity. It's medium-light in body and gently crisp and then smooth across the palate with a moderate carbonation level. About halfway through the glass the lacing is just as good as the head retention and I've got what look like trees from a haunted forest rising up from the ground. All in all I can't find anything to argue against in this beer. It might not be your personal taste but it's right on stylistically.
