A - Pours out a dark, largely opaque body, almost black but with brown-red highlights, with an off-white head, and thin line lacing.
S - A malty sweetness, Dr. Pepper cola notes of dark fruit and a touch of earthy spiciness.
T - A dark bread open, an over-done toast aspect, a bit of sweetness but very subtle given the nose. In the middle and through the end, the earthiness comes forward, mostly a clay note, a bit of wet limestone, while the char yields up a soft bitterness the fades quickly, as a touch of sweetness lingers on.
M - Brisk carbonation and a fairly light weight on the tongue, the scrubbing strong enough that it is that, and not any sweetness, that builds over time.
O - A solid Schwarzbier that incorporates sweetness, bitter notes, and a strong cleansing under-toe that combines to yield something greater than its parts. If I head north of the border again, I'll look for this one again.
