Appearance: Inky black with thin tan color head with short retention
Aroma: Immediately boozy, followed by notes of oak wood, pepper, coca & vanilla.
Flavor & Aftertaste: Starts sweet, spicy and peppery in the middle through the finish. Laced with notes of cocoa and vanilla. No bitterness. Alcohol is warming. Finish is medium with pepper and alcohol trailing.
Palate: Full bodied, sticky. Low carbonation.
Overall: Big American Stout aged for six months in oak barrels from ASW Distillery in Atlanta, GA. It is brewed with Szechuan peppers, chili peppers, cacao nibs and vanilla. I thought I would not like this because of the peppers, but it surprised me. It's boozy and smooth with oak barrel flavors and aromas forefront, but spiciness and sweetness accenting. Quite well done.
