Appearance: Dark brown, frothy off white head with good retention.
Aroma: Mild chocolate malt, nutty and light fruit-like esters.
Flavor & aftertaste: Chocolate note on the front end, some toffee & nuttiness with graininess on the backend. Moderate sweetness but not cloying. Low restrained bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Low carbonation. Medium sweet with a moderate length finish, mild trailing bitterness.
Overall: Poured from a crowler form the brewery. Nice looking beer. Dark brown, clear with a nice frothy head, good retention. This version used Chocolate malt, so it leans into more roasty, chocolate like aromas & flavors. But those are mild, it will not come off Porter/Stout like, nor should this style. You'll note the chocolate like flavors initially, then some toffee finishing with a pleasant graininess. It is moderately sweet with a medium body, low carbonation. Brewer delivers exactly what you expect, a mild flavorful beer at session strength. I like these sessionable styles as a change of pace. Nice effort.
