Thanks to the in-laws bringing this back from Brazil for me, best before Mar 20 (I think best before and not bottled on)
Pours an off-white foamy slight creamy but smaller head with moderate retention, a bit of lacing, semi hazy deep reddish orange color
Nose very English style earthy hops, earthy herbal and a bit fruity, big sweet malt, candy malt and toasted grain, some caramel and biscuity, touch of toffee, low alcohol, a little citrus, fair fruity from hops and yeast esters
Taste again is English style IPA, sweet malts upfront with grainy toasty caramel biscuity malts, very English style, sweet with fair bitterness to balance, hops are also earthy herbal and fruity, a little citrus, a touch of pine, plenty earthy but not mushroom or forest floor like, just earthy piney spicy, some fruity flavors also yeast derived esters and from the hops, bitterness getting a bit higher on the mild dry finish, spicy and a bit piney, a flash of alcohol in there as well
Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, medium fluffy carb, a touch of warming alcohol
Overall, considering they just call it a double IPA, it's not American like BA has listed but they don't claim that, and for an English style DIPA which I think they were going for, this was pretty good, nice old school IPA with big malt balance, earthy herbal fruity hops and some yeast esters, good sweet caramel toasty English malt bill, quite tasty and I wasn't expecting much from this
