A collaboration between Mikkeller and Krenkerup Bryggeri - a Danish brewery that makes quality beers from homegrown barley. 'Guldøl' is a lager with extra malt, hops and decoction mashing.
This 125 year old Danish beer type has a solid malt backbone, a substantial mouthfeel and a complex hoppiness.

Copenhagen 26/2 2021. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Rotunden, Hellerup. The label is reenactment of Carlsbergs Sort Guld this time with Mikkeller's little guy with the hat serving beer.
Pours slightly unclear golden yellow with a mid-sized white head. Settles as thin, patchy, remnants of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet, malty odor mingling with a sour scent of grains. Sweet pale malts, bread, cardboard. Sour grains and hints of citrus.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a slightly stronger bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a sweet undertone. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry.
Well balanced, solid take on the Danish tradition for slightly boozy, malt-heavy brews so very popular in the seventies and eighties.
