Amber-orange pour with a sturdy two-finger foam cap. The look was darker than expected, indicating a heavier malt presence, which turned out to be true. The flavor profile was decidedly bitter--citrus rinds, pine with a sweetish caramel malt finish. The problem was the level of bitterness. I like the bite of West Coast style IPAs, but this was so bitter it created a metallic quality on the palate that was rather unpleasant. I also regarded the malt as too heavy handed, minimizing the more pleasant pine/citrus flavors. Swing and a miss.

1st Review. 1st from Brewer. Enjoyed today after a 2 hour cycle with friends.
a) color, head, retention - to form, good.
s) Zest as promised but not overdone. Still an IPA, not a FruitPA.
t) Follows smell with lemon, orange, rind, pine, bitter hops on a solid caramel malt core.
f) To form.
o) Great first experience of this brewer.
