Pours a very dark brown with a thin cream colored head that immediately dissipates.
Aroma of roasted grains, burnt toast, and maple syrup.
The flavor is a stout with a conflicting mix of sweet and bitter. The sweetness from maple syrup on the initial sip is quickly chased away by the lingering bitterness, and the sweetness of the maple syrup makes the bitterness much more pronounced. There's also a bit of a burnt coffee flavor on the finish.
Overall I'm disappointed. I love coffee stouts, but this isn't for me. Instead of the coffee flavor that I love, it has a weird contrast of sweet followed by bitter. It makes me imagine putting a drop of maple syrup on your tongue before taking a sip of over-extracted bitter black coffee.
