From the bottle: Bold complex and decadent. These are the sorts of characters that reside in this bottle. A rich and strong Scotch ale that has been aged for nearly a year in rye barrels to bring out notes of spice, figs, dark fruit and baked bread. Resounding bellows of oak and vanilla enrapture the experience like a phantom specter that is as present as it is elusive.

Poured from a 750 ML bomber into a Samuel Smith imperial pint glass a root beer color with similarly fizzy head that dissipates just as quickly as a soda. Malt, sweet caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, fig and roasted grain are all present in the aroma. Flavor is malty sweetness up front with smoky peat in the background and a bready finish. Medium bodied with a light tingle on the tongue from the carbonation, and a good kick from the 8% ABV. Overall a descent brew but not one of my favorites for the style.

A bit more carbonated than expected for a Scotch Ale. Pours almost cola like with a medium tan head. Aroma is a very pleasant woody, peaty and spicy. Taste is malty, peaty and a little smoky. Almost no bitterness, but there is some. Feel is good with a bit more carbonation the expected. Overall, it's a nice scotch ale well presented and good.
