Appearance: Pours a dark brown body, though clear with an inch of light beige foam up top.
Smell: A toasted malt nose with some discarded, ashen, tartish fruitskins and clipped herbal tones. Doesn't really grab you, does it? And never really strikes you as a doppelbock, right?
Taste: Lightly sweetish hints of low-grade cherry cola, store-bought caramel that turn towards authoritatively dry toast with just a faint hint of nearby roast yet never really leaves the tartish cherry fruitiness. Some sharp herbals (like an infusion of gentian) with an unpleasant bitterness as you near the merciful finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Hmm. Well, it could certainly use some work.
