This beer is better than you might think! Starts out as a bock but once it warms up the aroma and the flavor changes and the whole beer starts tasting like an IPA! I was getting West Coast flavors there, it was amazing!
Has quite some sweetness to it that blends in with the booziness (which by the way is not dominant, you just feel it - not taste it.) Nice hoppy aroma once it warms up, kind of honey-like, syrupy feel to it, which - combined with the 7+ ABV - is reminiscent of the best West Coast IPAs (RIP Stone…)
All in all, it is an amazing beer, very exciting, almost trippy in quality, I would definitely recommend it, might as well say that this has been the best of 2023 so far - and for less than 1$… WTF?!?

The first review on Ottakringer Bock stated that this tastes much more similar to an European Strong Lager than a Bock. Id like to echo that statement.
Its pale and though fizzy, light in head. Little going on in regards to aroma or flavor. Some dry malt and faint grassiness...starkly different than other Austrian seasonal bocks. Its drinkable for what is...non offensive and a higher concentration of alcohol for a non inflated price. But a true bock, it is not.

Tried this out of a bottle while in Vienna and enjoyed it very much. I can't say that there is anything in particular that stands head and shoulders above the rest but is nonetheless a good example of the Bock style. The taste was, in my opinion, much like a slightly stronger version of their Helles style beer. This isn't a bad thing, but just interesting to note. Overall I'd recommend it.

It's Bock time in Austria, and Vienna's supermarkets are full of Bock varieties. Woohoo! This one comes in a green half liter bottle with a green and silver label featuring a goat leaping in front of a full moon. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 4/4/07, I opened it on 10/20/06.
Pours a clear fairly deep gold under a two finger white head that fades slowly but surely, leaving fairly heavy lace behind. There's a very mild grainy nose with clear barley notes. The mouth is light and fairly mildly carbonated, leaving a slightly flat impression. The taste starts with sweet malt, but quickly moves to slightly sour, then a touch of dry straw and an undertone of bitterness emerge. Mild sourness dominates the aftertaste, complimented by an echo of just slightly metallic bitter. It's far less than great, but drinkable.

Beautiful bottle design, bright golden color with a honeyish stroke, huge head, plenty of lace.
Smell very malty with a strong presence of white spirit. Some hops in the nose but not much.
Start malty, sweet, warming. Body big and square - maltiness and alcohol supress the hops. Finish bittersweet, without typical Ottakringer sourness. Aftertaste bitter with a shade of alcohol.
Rather a Euro Strong than a Bock. I wish it would be more balanced, complex and hoppy.
