Had on tap. Cloudy brown with a hint of orange hues, khaki head with sporadic lacing. Toffee malts integrate into waves of brown bread yeast, dark nut, and a hint of toast. Taste adds an orange zesty kiss on the end, and the toffee comes across now as caramel with a heavier toasted emphasis. Stays light and frothy, very drinkable but not too deep either

Third beer from this brewery on draft at the gasthaus in Vienna. Proper dunkel. Rich, flavorful, clear, crisp. Drinkability is high. Really great with a sugary dessert.

Small creamy head, fades at a med pace, little lacing, mahogany color

Nose sweet candy malt, toasted toffee, little nutty, hint of cocoa and some coffee, caramel

Taste sweet malts and caramel, touch cocoa, toffee, nutty, hint of coffee, candy malts, a hint of roasty, pretty sweet esp on the finish

Mouth is med to fuller bod, a bit of sticky sweet, decent carb

Bottle, poured into large glass.

Appearance: Looks like a classic dunkel. Deep mahogany brown, but still translucent. Nice brown-tinted, off-white head.

Smell: Malty and ever so slightly hoppy. Inviting and not overpowering.

Taste: Deep, roasted chocolatey malts and a very, very slight hop flavor, following the nose.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium carbonation, goes down nicely.

Overall: Highly drinkable, a solid choice when in the supermarket. And at 1 euro for 0.5 liter, this is a solid beer for keeping several around if you're living in Vienna.

.5L emptied into a pilsener glass.

A: Pours a dark copper tinged with ruby highlights, fluffy 2-finger tan head which slowly receeds to a thick ring. Good lacing.

S: Roasted caramel malts are immediately apparent, with a hint of milk chocolate at the end. Not overpowering but perceptible.

M: Medium body with a healthy amount of carbonation.

T: Sweet caramel malts, hops are well hidden at the back, tucked behind the roasted malt. Aftertaste is faintly citrus-like, lemon zest comes to mind.

D: A nice Dunkel, all the right elements are here, but I can't help feeling that the flavor could be just a hint more intense. This is an easy beer to drink and worth trying.

Definitely a very handsome beer coming in a chestnut colour with a ruby tinge

Smell is very malty and sweet with some faint fruit but minly caramel roast malt

Taste follows suit and is definitely very good - slight marmite finish though which some dunkel beers do

Mouthfeel is refreshing with medium body

I d drink this again

Probably the most common beer in my fridge. It can't be knocked. Its a solid representation of the style.

Nose is nothing but sweet roasted malts. They are sugary sweet, but more of a caramelized roast. Color is opaque and rich. A moderate head remains, even half way through a glass. Flavor is, as other reviews have mentioned, a little sweet, but in accordance with the style. A roasted dryness speaks for high drinkability, but if the malts were roasted maybe a bit longer, it would do wonders for this beer. If it were a little more dry, it would be world class.

Definitely better than most of Ottakringer (provided you like dark, sweet, beer).

Deep brown/reddish color, and mostly solid. Hard to tell if it pours with a lot of head; the bartender I assume took some off.

Smells like a good dark beer should, relatively sweet with a fair amount of nut, malt, and (some) chocolate. Could have been more powerful.

Very sweet taste, so beware if you are not a fan of sweet beers. A somewhat bitter aftertaste hurts drinkability.

Overall, recommended for fans of this style beer.

If you like sweet dark lager, here it is.

Pours mahogany straw forming high coffeish head and leaving rich lace.

Aroma sweet, full of malty & chocolate tones with a hint of nuts.

Start very malty, body medium, rounded, mouthfeel a bit oily. Nice hoppy accent towards finish. Bittersweet aftertaste.

Too sweet for my liking, but not bad at all. Worth a try.
