Okay this is THE beer at Penny Market and now is at 4.2% ABV. You might boo at this but this is on par with your average adjuncts - and for a mere 49 cents! No real downside to it, no foul aftertaste no nothing, just a somewhat light(er) beer that is a decent chug on a long hot summer day. Think I might buy it again.

.5L emptied into a Pokal.

A: Pours a pale gold with a 1-finger fluffy head which receeds to a thin ring. Some lacing is present, but nothing significant.

S: Sour malt, not much else. Rather discouraging, even a faint hint of rubbing alcohol.

M: Medium, bordering on thin, watery. Poor carbonation.

T: Weak barley malt with middling hops. Hop extract becomes readily apparent through the midrange. Aftertaste is lamentable, leaving a very sour flavor.

D: Never again. This is probably the worst low-end Austrian beer I have ever encountered. Nothing about this beer lives up to the quality pledge on the label. I struggled with this one for quite a while before I gave up and put it down the drain. Another 'fail' for Ottakringer.

I purchased this half-liter can in a supermarket a few kilometers into Italy from the Swiss border. From the packaging, I'd say it's clearly intended to be a discount beer. The most puzzling thing is the term 'Schankbier' on the can. The ABV is about average, but I always thought that Schankbiers were supposed to be low in alcohol?
The beer is a light and simple transparent yellow. The head is very shallow...quickly fading to non-existance. The aroma is faint and simple, but is comprised of a nice floral hop smell and some clean pale malt qualities. Light in body, with a very modest flavor intensity. A little malt, a bit watery, low hop flavor and bitterness. The beer reminds me of a mid-to-high tier american lager (without the adjunct flavors). It is a little watery, but it's also relativley drinkable.
