Pours a cloudy, deep, dark amber coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of sweet, caramel malt and not much else, except some light red berry notes. Taste is very much dominated by sweet, syruppy caramel malt and light red berry notes, with very little hoppiness coming through except perhaps for light pine resin and the merest hint of citrus. Finishes sticky sweet, with some caramel malt and red berries lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This is a really odd one that is weirdly dominated by sweet, sticky caramel malt and toffee, with very little hoppiness coming through for a supposed DIPA, with the more fruity red berry notes probably stemming from the malt as well. Honestly reminds me more of an Old Ale or Barleywine than an IPA, even though there are some some faint hints of citrus and pine in there somewhere. Even assuming a 12-month best-by date, this shouldn't be more than 6 months old or have deteriorated this much. While it kinda makes for a passable American Barleywine, it's certainly a terrible, terrible DIPA.
