Deep brown where bright light does pass through the center of the glass. Modest off-white head which leaves plenty of streaks on the glass after each sip.

Powdered chocolate aroma on the first whiff. Subsequent smells include chalk and a light berry sweetness. Otherwise this beer smells dry.

Thinner bodied as would be expected from a Euro Dark Lager. The carbonation is a bit muted. The taste begins with a quiet toasted malt. This gives way to unsweetened chocolate and then harsher burnt (black patent?) malt. The finish is closest to a dry Stout. Overall, this is far more flavorful than most of its European cousins with a surprisingly dry and bitter finish and a long aftertaste.

A: The beer is nearly jet black in color and only has traces of dark brownish red near the corners of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a quarter finger high light tan head that left a large, thin patch of bubbles on the surface, a narrow collar around the edge, and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of dark and chocolate malts are present in the nose along with notes of roasted malts.
T: The taste is nearly a mirror image to the smell and has a light amount of bitterness from the underlying hops.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and rather clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This black pilsner has lots of aromas and flavors of chocolate and roasted malts but is very easy to drink and has a relatively clean mouthfeel.
