Review: 0,33l bottle of Lösch-Zwerg Cola Weizen: 2.8% vol.

Like the little brown bottles with the pull caps, has the logo of a little elf on the front, as a fireman. Zwerg means dwarf!

On pour, as to be expected this looks exactly like a cola, brownish in appearance, no head. Except this in fact has less carbonation than the real thing!

A white head did make an appearance in the second bottle, but died quickly after, and the beer looks generally flat.

Minimal smell, just picking up the cola aroma, but on a very faint level.

Bit of a disappointment in the taste department, expected more of a cola taste, but what I got was pretty flat, and tasteless really. Like a bad watery cola, with a hint, and just a hint, of alcohol.

Second bottle served ice cold, much better in the taste, more cool and crisp on the tongue, and much more of a cola taste, and this time the alcohol is alive! Sugary, cola, caramels, wheat, and a bit of yeast.

Overall I think I would much prefer to have the real thing, a cola, perhaps with a dash of vodka. This is simply not worth it.

Privatbrauerei Schimpfle "Lösch-Zwerg Cola Weizen"
,33L brown glass bottle, "mindestens halter bis: 27.04.18 13:52" and sampled on 21.09.17

Cola Weizen is simply an alternative to a radler or Russn. It's basically for children, and to a certain extent, the low alcohol content reflects that.

It looks like a glass of cola with a dark caramel colored body and a spritzy khaki colored head, but there's clearly less carbonation here and once the initial pour has passed you see only a few tiny bubbles rising here and there as opposed to the many big bubbles in a cola. The head does hold longer than it would for a cola, and it also leaves some nice streaks and spots of lacing.

The aroma is cola-like as well, sugary and minty/herbal. The flavor then follows although there's also a clear hefeweizen flavor as well. It really is kind of half and half with the cola upfront and the banana character of the weizen in the back.

It's light-medium in body and gently crisp then smooth in the mouth.

So what's the purpose of this? One, I think, is that it's probably healthier than an actual soda pop, and two, it probably helps introduce kids to alcohol awareness and German bier culture in an easy way. It's just an alternative to the Russn which is hefeweizen mixed with lemon soda.
