Zeus is my newest local so I have high hopes for this can, purchased at the Thrifty Beverage.
Brewed in conjunction ( "with the help of") Industrial Arts Brewing. Dark green can with wraparound gold and silver electronic circuit board art and lightning bolt Zeus logo front and center. Can says "brewed and packaged at Zeus" so I'm curious what part IA's played.
Good looking glass - a slight chill haze to the deep amber beer that threw a 2 inch head of clotted cream foam. Excellent head retention and smatters of lace.
Classic IPA aromas, some tangerine and pine forest, grain husks and boiling wort with a faint whiff of alcohol. Well balanced and slightly underwhelming, it still screams IPA in all the right ways - no acrid blast of juiced citrus or under fermented sugars, just solid beery smells that invite you in.
Balanced flavor profile from the get-go. Rich, malt soaked hop flower complexity floods the mouth and coats it with flavors of spiced orange marmalade and caramel coated spruce tips dusted in white pepper.
Medium bodied but full flavored with significant late boil hop character that keeps the full boil hop bitterness in check maybe a bit too much. Certainly not "soft" but maybe somewhere in between West coast and east coast in bittering IBU's.
Still, a finely balanced IPA with malt character that at least stands up to the hop rate and a big boy ABV.
Well done Zeus - I'll be in for a pint of this asap.
