its cool that so many of these small coastal towns have breweries out here now, seeing the scene expand is amazing, and its fun to connect the dots on our travels to the area each year, but this place was a total letdown, really rough service, very limited beers of their own despite a nice lineup of guest beers, and even though its a cool place in a old house right off the main drag in florence, the whole experience was not great, partially because the two beers of theirs we had were not great, this was perhaps the worse of the two, but not by much, they both were very amateurish. this has a pretty garnet color, near clarity, and a short but lasting cream head. the nose on it is weirdly yeasty and almost slightly burnt to me, some smoke and metal elements too, not clean at all, and a bit sweet like its not quite fermented all the way, faintly astringent, a dishwater vibe, some neat dried fruitiness in the malt layers and some bittering hops evident, but its not enough to make this too appealing. the flavor is similarly disjointed and sloppy, its everything from soapy to chemical, its fuller feeling too, and it stays yeasty on my palate awhile after each sip. a tough pint to finish. its the unflattering type of homebrewy, and i left disappointed in more than just their service. cool spot, should be better than it is, especially in a style like this which is not particularly difficult to make...
