On tap at the source
Comes to the table a mostly clear light straw color with a smallish white head that displays moderate retention. The aroma is sweet bready pilsner malt with a solid hit of spicy hops to counter. The flavor follows the aroma, a sweet crisp pilsner maltiness countered with spicy floral hops. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick almost resinous mouthfeel. This was a really great beer today, it reminds me a lot of a German pilsner. The recipe must fluctuate a bit because I've had this before and was not blown way like I was today.

Poured on-tap and served in a tall pilsener glass, the beer is a hazed, vibrant, goldenrod coloring with a couple of steady carbonation streams and an extremely thin filmy coating. Light aromas of biscuit and toasty characters, with a subtle butter sweetness. Flavors are smooth and roasty, with a cereal backbone giving rise to a lightly spiced, honey and butter sweet balance. The body is thin and crisp, and with the low ABV this is a very easy drinker. The aftertaste is very mild, with a hint of toast and not much else. Crisp, almost effervescent finish. Flavors were a little light for my liking, but a decent beer nonetheless.

On-tap, sampled during a pub-crawl that started in MA and went all over the map. Pour temp: unknown, but served very cold (nice, actually).
Appearance: Streamers of bubbles propping up a 0.5-inch, white head that diminished into a thin wisp. Color a stylish straw yellow.
Smell: Thin malt, not much hops. Very similar to a typical BudMillerCoors (which this beer is intentionally trying to mimic, yet outperform).
Taste: Barely a taste of hop flavor, only a trace of bitterness. Malt presence is mostly represented by a thin grain flavor, ending with a metallic(?) spring (yeah, I know that sounds weird, but thats what came to mind). There is something there that reminds me of the Canadian style of pilsner/lager (which seems odd, for an ale).
Mouthfeel: Thin. Stops abruptly (albeit cleanly). Again, reminds me of BMC, with a Canadian influence.
Drinkability: Good to excellent drinkability. This is definitely a quaffing (as opposed to a sipping) beer; good for hot days.
Overall: This seems to be a good representation of the typical American post-repeal, mass-market beers, which is what the brewer was trying for (its in the beers menu description and on the website). I tried to rate it based on the style, but Ive still got a lot of baggage to shed with regards to this style (American Mass-market beers) before Im truly a dispassionate, completely unbiassed reviewer.

Volstead pours a blonde straw color and leaves a white lace. This is def a beer that could convert some people onto craft beer. This beer is smooth very drinkable easy on the palate and has some slight complexity in the aroma. The aroma is fruity(strawberry, blueberry). The taste is somewhat sweet, the malt really takes hold of this ale bringing in some fruit flavors...it hits the palate with a slight hop/floural bitterness enough so you feel balanced followed by a very faint alcohal presence finished with some sour grape taste.

These numbers kill me...but I have to review how the beer comes across to me. Very pale yellow. "American beer aroma" is written in my notes, some maltiness, some graininess. Very low carbonation. Light, not bad, some sweetness present. There's some flavor in there though, that reminds me of rubber tires. That is what is bringing down the marks on an otherwise light tasting experience.

Lt Golden-straw color. Very mild, light hop nose; Thin body and medium feel on the tongue. Touch of citrus/lemon and mild hop finish... a tad bitter.... ok for a light bier.
