Sent by johnnnniee to aerozeppl as part of growling at the moon. ** should be noted that this is an unpastureized brew that FedEx missed delivery on 3x before being picked up at the warehouse. Brewers' notes suggest drinking within 24 hours. My experience may be way off the mark.**

A: Dark brown-black with no some opacity at the edges against direct light. About a finger of tan head with a vigorous growler pour.

S: Very little nose- burnt sugar. Sour off-note- possibly because of age+non-pasteurization.

T: Taste held up pretty well. Flavors increased as temperature decreased (initially served straight from the refrigerator.) Malt, burnt sugar, toffee & espresso beans with a bitter hop finish. The bitter hop finish went away as the beer warmed.

M: Awesome mouthfeel. Extremely creamy & full-bodied. The mouthfeel actually hit me before the taste, it was that good. Low carbonation apropriate to the style.

D: Very drinkable for the style + the ABV. Would definitely like to hit this on tap.

Sent by johnnnniee as part of growling at the moon. Thanks again.

A: The great RIS appearance. Jet black with no light getting in. a Finger of tan head which is impressive for a growler pour. Though I did pour it more like a heff than anything else.

S: Nose is very subtle on this and I have it in a small snifter. Slight roasted smell but that is about it.

T: For a growler that Fedex could not deliver 3 times this beer held up fairly well. Sweet malt up front then into burnt espresso beans and a strong bitterness. Hints of coffee are there sporadicly. Finishes with a mix of sweet malt and coffee bitterness. Weird 2 second hop burst at the end.

M: Really great creamy mouthfeel. Carbonation is super low but it is an RIS from a growler.

D: Super drinkable. The body is on the lighter side which enables a more drinkable beer. Again thanks to johnnnniee for the growler. Would love to try this fresh on tap sometime.

On Tap at Martha's in Nashua. Poured into a 10 oz Tulip-glass. The beer is supposed to be a cross between an imperial stout and a Belgian dubbel. Appearance is jet black with a decent tan head.

The smell is where the dubbel side shows, candy sweetness and a little less smoky malt.

Taste is sweet upfront with the smoky and burnt malt taste at the finish,

This beer went well with my steak tips, but it did not go down fast.

I think this beer was an original attempt, but it did not quite hit the spot with me.

Had a recent visit to the brewpub, the beer was presented from the tap in a tulip glass it was a dark black color with little to no head and no other signs of carbonation. Some small spots of lace during the sample but nothing appreciable.

The nose of a mix of roasted malt (almost a burnt smell), dark fruits, slight plum, and slight hints of chocolate and coffee.

The innitial taste has a very deep roasted malt character. Similiar to strong black coffee with hints of fruit in each sip. Fig and plum come thru with just a sliver of chicory like bitterness in the finish. Alcohol was well masked, bareley detectable, and balanced well within the beer. I would have like just a slight bit more of a pronounced alcoholic tinge to the beer.

Medium body with little carbonation. Certainly enjoyable and a great finish to a good meal. Paired well with the peanut butter pie.

Poured straight at the brewhouse, this stour poured a black, opaque with a thick tan head. smell was that if roasted malt. mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side for a stout, but still full bodied. very tasty, noticed chocolate and caramel as well as a bitter roasted malt aftertaste. if you get the chance to go to Martha's then this is a great stout to drink

This one hit my ABF tasting cup with a resounding splash of nearly opaque cola colour with edges of ruby. I was ratehr amused that on first sniff, there was no real smell at all. On a second try, I picked up on a hint of molasses.

The flavour was a nice smoky undertone with a hint of tanginess. It was rounded out by spice and and molasses.

Body was a bit deceiving. At some points, it felt a little syrupy, and others a bit watery.

A good one I enjoyed, and wouldn't mind having again- but it probably would not be one of my regular beers.

Be well

This brew is intended to combine elements of the imperial stout and abbey dubbel styles. It's more of a stout than a dubbel, but is being evaluated as a hybrid and not a by the books brew fit for a Czar. This beer is crafted for a much more discerning, and adventurous palate. This is also the first Martha's brew that has really impressed me.

It's served in a 10 oz glass drawn from the tap, and forms a banish head on top of a jet black brew. It leaves a little lace as it's consumed.

The aroma has scents of Belgian yeasts and roasted malts. It's faint, but pleasant.

The flavor of this brew is big, and complex. The malts are well roasted, and offer tats of chocolate and caramel. There are hints of raisons, and a very Belgian spacing to the flavors. The hop notes are subtle but significant. This very pleasant brew is the first Martha?s beer to really impress me.

This light bodied beer is very smooth and drinkable. It'd be a pleasant session brew that can also be enjoyed as a sipping beer. The incredible complexity is not intruisive. The seductive smoothness almost encourages overly quick consumption.

this brew pours a black opaque with a tan head that last for while then ends up as a nice tan collar. A sexy lace is present after the head settles. The smell of fruits pour out the top of the 10 oz. glass with great pleasure. As I anticipate the first sip my mouth starts to water and then. The maltiness and the candi sugar come flying out of the glass to the palate. I really like this beer. The hops are not strong but who cares this is a nice steady brew that is not complex but complex enough to keep me happy.

Cheers

Presentation: 10 oz glass from tap.

Appearance: Very dark brown/black with some tan foam that leaves a trace of lace on the glass.

Smell: Strong aroma of sweet, dark, roasted malt, with a slight smell of alcohol.

Taste: A very strong flavor: coffee, bitter chocolate, very sweet malt and sugar, with a trace of licorice. Very low hop flavor. A slight taste of alcohol in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, sweet, moderately full body, low carbonation. Rich mouthfeel.

Drinkability: Very good. I had to have more than one of these!

The menu describes this as a cross between an Imperial Stout and a Brown Abbey Ale. I would classify it as a specialty/experimental stout. In any event, it is very tasty!

Yet another first-time offering from Greg at Martha's. Poured in a 10oz glass, due to the higher abv, so I'm told. Poured a jet-black color, like engine oil. Head was dark-tan and very rich and creamy-looking. Started out as a healthy layer, yet thinned quickly to a very thin coating. Lacing was real nice, as it stuck well down the glass! Dark fruit notes were in the nose, as well as alcohol-evidence, and hoppiness! The Stout was relatively smooth, yet not as full-bodied as I had expected. The brewer noted that this is a cross between an Imperial and an Abbey. I could definitely pick up some Candi-sugar traces, as well as dark fruit characteristics in the flavor. It had a major-league warming sensation as it wended it's way into the belly! I ended up having 5 of these (at the urging of JohnnyP), so I guess the drinkability was up there!! Prosit!!
