Poured from a crowler into a dimpled mug. Can filled two days ago at the brewery.
Appearance: nice black color which shows a clear body with deep mahogany highlights when held up to the light. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam; I think it's right on point for the style.
Smell: sweet, malty aroma, with notes of toffee and nuttiness. A little roast and a little biscuit round it out; perhaps a bit sweet for my taste but it's nice.
Taste: quite sweet with a malt base that is caramelly and a bit biscuity; some of the roast from the aroma is lost. It's not a bad beer, but it's a bit one-dimensional (and not along my favorite dimension).
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess. Perfectly reasonable.
Overall: this is a decent beer, but it's got an almost-cloying level of sweetness and I feel like a little drying out would do it wonders of good.
